This part of our website is focussed on the Irish Leonberger scene. We are attempting to give as much information as possible to owners and people considering a Leonberger. Please contact us with any comments, enquiries etc.

How and why our club was formed.

By 2006 there were a number of people in Ireland with Leonberger dogs. They met up at shows from time to time. Most of them kept in touch with the breeders of their dogs and that was their main source of information and support. A few people discussed the idea of a club to bring all Leo owners together so that they could share individual experiences and work together to ensure that the welfare of the dog was maintained to a high standard.

There was a social gathering of Leo owners in 2006 and a meeting in March 2007 when a club was formed. The club got recognition from the IKC and the Leonberger Union the same year.

In October 2007 the club membership had increased to 15 people and they had their first AGM. And from these simple beginnings the club continues to grow from strength to strength.
